Several doctors, healthcare workers, paramedics and medical students were amongst those who volunteered to work at the site.

Social activist Yusuf Abramjee, who was part of the team overseeing the drive-through, said the response was “excellent”.

“We are delighted,” he said.

“The volunteers and officials from Gauteng Health provided a friendly and efficient service and we are flooded with positive feedback from those who got their jabs.

“Excluding the observation time of 15 minutes, the average time was between six and eight minutes to process and administer the vaccines.”

Abramjee said both the J&J and Pfizer vaccines were being offered.

A 79-year-old Dr Sataar Aboobaker who got vaccinated said “it was a great honour” for him to get vaccinated.

“I’m so happy that more and more people are coming forward to get the vaccines,” he said.
Abramjee said the site would be open from 09:00 to 15:00 on Mondays to Thursdays as well as Saturdays.

“It was good to see some who were opposed to vaccines are now coming forward. Vaccines save lives,” he said.

Makhura appealed to everyone over the age of 35 to get vaccinated.
