Pretoria jackpot winner urged to claim millions

“Congratulations to our newest Powerball Plus winner, our winner services department is ready to receive the winner."

National lottery operator Ithuba has called on north of Pretoria resident to come forward and claim their multi-million rand winnings after they purchased a winning ticket at the Brazil Café in Pretoria North last week.

“We encourage all players to check their tickets as they may be our latest millionaire,” Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza said.

The lucky winner spent R22.50 on the winning ticket using the quick pick selection method, netting more than R8-million in winnings.

“Congratulations to our newest Powerball Plus winner, our winner services department is ready to receive the winner,” she said.

“The first step will be to validate the winning ticket and offer the winner free trauma counselling and financial advisory services.”

Mabuza explained the advisory services were meant to help winners deal with the life-changing moment they experience and to assist them with their financial planning.

This was done with all winners of R50 000 and above.

Last week, a 47-year-old man who won more than R17-million said he had big plans for his winnings while speaking to the national lottery operator.

“I’m currently building a house for my family, I will use the winnings to complete the building and furnishing our family home.

“My fiancé and I are [also] getting married in December [so] a portion of the winnings will go towards our dream wedding and honeymoon, most probably at an exotic location once the pandemic is over,” he said.

The winner, who was also an electrician, said he also had planned to invest in and buy shares in a telecommunications company with the balance of his winnings.

“As a father of two young kids, I want to ensure that they have a good life and receive the best opportunities.”

The new multi-millionaire was said to have purchased his winning ticket just hours before the draw on 27 July, from the Super Spar in Silver Oaks Crossing Centre, east of Pretoria.

“A couple of days after the draw, I decided to check my Powerball ticket when I realised that I had matched all six numbers.

“I immediately checked on the national lottery’s website to see how many other players had won the Powerball Plus jackpot [and] to my surprise, there was only one lucky winner and at that very moment, I knew I was that one lucky winner,” he said.

Mabuza extended her congratulatory messages to the lucky family man.

“A huge congratulations to our latest Powerball multi-millionaire, we are excited that we have yet another big jackpot winner this year.”
