Law enforcement were deployed in maximum numbers to ensure there was visibility and people adhered to the disaster management act.
Simultaneous operations including operations Basadi were conducted throughout Tshwane district where 280 people were arrested.
Law enforcement were deployed in maximum numbers to ensure there was visibility and people adhered to disaster management act, said police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.
The joint operations saw more than 10 liquor outlets shut down for failure to comply with the act.
“On Thursday, police in Pretoria Moot arrested three suspects who were in possession of two unlicenced firearms, ammunition and a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The arrest came after it was established that these suspects were involved in a number of business robberies in Limpopo,” Selepe said.
She said an investigation and tracing of the remaining suspects was underway.
Over the weekend, more than five stolen vehicles were recovered in Villieria, Soshanguve, Hercules, Pretoria Central and Akasia.
These vehicles have been impounded and booked in for further investigations, Selepe added.
The 280 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from theft, shoplifting, assault common, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, possession of stolen property, possession of dagga and drugs, driving under influence of alcohol, contravention of the disaster management act, theft of motor vehicles, house robberies, business robbery and malicious damage to property.
The suspects will appear in different magistrate courts.
Tshwane Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu welcomed the arrests and urged the community to come fourth with any illegal activities to assist the SAPS in ensuring the criminals are brought to justice.
Furthermore, he urged members of the integrated law enforcement to sustain the momentum in addressing crime.
