Motorists warned to be careful after drive-thru robbery
Two armed men, one on either side of the car, approached the vehicle, pointing their guns at her and her family members.
Motorists are warned to be careful while queuing at fast food drive-thrus after a woman and her family were recently robbed at a popular fast food outlet in Silverlakes.
Two robbers blocked the drive-thru exit to prevent the cars from moving, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.
The woman, who had two children in her car, was approached by the armed men while waiting to exit the queue.
“The robbers blocked the exit with a car. Directly behind the victims was another car, which the robbers ignored. Instead, they targeted the woman and her family,” Mbatsane said.
“The two armed men, one on either side of the car, approached the vehicle, pointing their guns at her and her family members. She opted to take off her jewellery and threw them out the window.”
“They ran for the wedding ring and necklace.”
Mbatsane said as the robbers were picking up the jewellery, the woman tried to drive away and they fired two shots at the car.
He said no injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

“This robbery is the first of its kind to be reported in the area. Such cases are not common,” he said.
“We urge motorists to be vigilant.”
He said police frequently patrolled shopping centres such as the one where the fast-food outlet was located.
Last week another resident in Karenpark, north of Pretoria, was hijacked at a drive-thru. The men drove off with the victim still in the car. Later they left him on the side of the road in Mabopane.
