Manager on Welbekend farm attacked after stock theft
“The farm manager fought against his attacker, where after the suspect fled with his other three friends on foot.”
A manager was attacked on a farm in Welbekend outside Pretoria on Sunday night when he allegedly caught stock thieves red-handed on the property.
The attack took place in the Kameelzynkraal area around 20:30.
AfriForum safety coordinator Llewellynn Hemmens said a manager on the farm went out to the sheep enclosure after an alarm went off.
“The farm manager went out to investigate and was attacked by a man near the kraal.”
Hemmens said the manager fought back against his attacker, who then fled the scene along with three other suspects on foot.
“Luckily the farm manager had sustained only minor injuries.”
Hemmens said security companies and the community were alerted after the attack.

“It was then they realised four rams were stolen.”
Hemmens said though the farm manager was not seriously hurt, it should be stressed that people on farms should not go out alone when alarms are set off.
“Stay inside the house and alert your security structures. We’ve been communicating with farmers in the area to take precautions as Welbekend area has dense bushes where criminals can easily hide.”
Police were yet to comment.
