Message of hope repainted on rocks

Mountain View residents repainted and rearranged rocks that spelt out a religious message of hope on the Magalies mountain at the weekend.
The message reads: “Kyk Hy kom” (“Look He is coming”) and “Net Jesus kan red” (“Only Jesus saves”).

The original message was initiated by the Bergsig Protestante Kerk around 50 years ago, but the stones have become faded over the years.
A group of volunteers made up of residents and members of the Emergency Support Team (EST) and Best Care emergency medical services took to the mountain on Sunday morning, to rearrange the stones to make the message more eligible.
“Doing this is all about an uplifting message in our dark times,” said Xander Loubser of Best Care emergency services.

“These words are a beacon of hope to not only residents in the area, but to everyone who needs an inspirational message, especially in the tough times, we are finding ourselves in.
“We were overwhelmed by the positive response we received on social media about this. We are grateful to know that the message brightened someone’s day,” he said.

“I want to thank the team, but I especially want to thank Louise van Staden, for always tackling something in full. Your enthusiasm and adventure are what makes you such a beautiful person,” he said.
Van Staden said they always worked closely with Loubser and her team in community projects.

“As soon as Xander approached us to join in the initiative, we did not have to think twice to lend a hand,” said Van Staden.
“It is such a great team to work with and to be part of a project where we can make a difference.”
