Covid-19: Tshwane urges youth to vaccinate
Week-on-week decrease in the number of active Covid-19 cases continues with most recent Covid-19 report indicates active cases have dropped to 3 735.
Tshwane metro has urged the youth to vaccinate as the region showed a decrease in coronavirus active cases this week.
In a weekly Covid-19 update report, Tshwane mayor Randall Williams said the infections continued to decrease and called on those aged 18-34 to go for their jabs.
This week the metro recorded a slight week-on-week decrease of 252 infections in the number of active Covid-19 cases. The decrease was low compared to the previous week’s 1 317 drop in active infections. Weeks before then the decrease mounted to over 2 000 drop in active cases weekly.
As of Sunday, the active cases stood at 3 735, from 3 987 in the previous week.
“It is encouraging to see the weekly trend of declining Covid-19 active cases, however, it’s important that we do not lower our guard and that we continue to adhere to the relevant Covid-19 regulations,” Williams said.
Williams urged residents to vaccinate to achieve herd immunity.
“I would like to welcome the 18-34 age group to our vaccination programme. The city has 43 public vaccination sites spread across the seven regions of Tshwane. We’ve also launched a weekend vaccination programme including drive-thru vaccination sites. “
Williams called on all eligible groups to vaccinate as the metro saw waning numbers among the elderly groups.

People 18 and older can walk in to any vaccine sites to get their jabs.
The metro has recently raised concerns over waning vaccination rush in elderly groups, and in an effort to get more people to vaccinate, the metro was set to meet with church and community leaders to encourage residents to vaccinate.
The meetings would include health experts that would answer questions pertaining to people’s hesitancy and allay fears regarding vaccines.
