Local firefighters visit schools to teach fire safety
Sinoville firefighters visited kids and kindergartners in Waverley to teach and demonstrate fire safety protocols.
The Sinoville Firefighters Association (SBBV) visited schools in Waverley last week to educate children on fire safety.
SBBV spokesperson Zenobia Loock du Plessis said members of the local fire brigade visited Dirk Postma school and Dirkieland nursery school.
“The SBBV presented educational programmes around fires and firefighting,” said Loock du Plessis.

“We believe knowledge is power, and it is important that children know what to do in the event of a fire at home.”
Kindergarten assistant Michelle Verhoef said for many of the kids it was a first-time experience meeting a firefighter.

“One of the firefighters got into full gear and even wore an oxygen mask,” explained Verhoef excitedly.
“Although some of the kids were at first frightened because the masked firefighter sounded a little like ‘Darth Vader’ in Star Wars, they eventually relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

Verhoef thanked the SBBV members who gave a thorough lesson and interactive demonstration around fire safety.
Loock du Plessis said it was important for parents to educate their young ones on fire safety at home.
