East service delivery projects take shape

Tshwane mayor conducts oversight visits in Mamelodi, Lusaka and Nellmapius to assess service delivery.

The Tshwane mayor conducted an oversight visit in Mamelodi, Lusaka and Nellmapius to assess service delivery on Tuesday.

Mayor Randall Williams was joined by MMCs Karen Meyer, Dana Wannenburg and Sakkie du Plooy, as they monitored and assessed service delivery-related projects.

Williams said the oversight visits was part of a promise he made last year November, when he took office, to do follow up projects on the ground.

“Conducting oversight visits forms a key part of our work. It is important we have our eyes and ears on the ground to better respond to the needs of our residents,” said Williams.

He was pleased to note that maintenance work such as cleaning of stormwater systems, road marking and patching of potholes was taking place across the different areas.

He said the visits were also an opportunity to monitor progress on key capital projects.

“One such project is the construction of the Lusaka clinic which is currently at 48% completion, and we expect final completion towards the calendar year end of 2022,” said Williams.

“The facility will be a great addition to the community, bringing quality health services to our residents and supporting the growth of Mamelodi.”

Williams also took time to inspect the electrification project in Nellmapius ext 22.

“The area has two portions and the city has committed to electrify it in four phases,” he said.

The first has already began and was at 55% completion.

Williams said R51-million was required to implement and complete the entire project and so far, R20-million had been allocated for the current financial year.

“As the project progresses, additional funds will be requested during the budget adjustment and preparation periods to ensure that the project is properly concluded,” he said.
