Tshwane under stage 3 water restrictions

Water utility Rand Water has placed Tshwane under stage 3 water restrictions with immediate effect.

The Tshwane metro has urged residents to use water sparingly as bulk water utility Rand Water has placed the city under stage 3 water restrictions.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the water utility has implemented the restrictions following a drop in its reservoir water levels.

“Tshwane has received a notification from Rand Water, the water utility, about the instant implementation of stage 3 water restrictions in some parts of the city under regions 1, 3 and 4,” Mashigo said.

“In an effort to save the distribution network from collapsing, restricting water to some parts of Tshwane was inevitable and the only viable option.

“Residents within the city’s jurisdiction are urged to reduce their water consumption.”

Mashigo reminded residents that water restrictions that were imposed previously in line with the water supply by-laws, were never withdrawn and are therefore still applicable.

Residents were reminded not to water or irrigate gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler system between 06:00 and 18:00.

They are also urged not to wash vehicles with a hosepipes or high-pressure systems or fill their swimming pools with water.

“The city urges all residents to make efforts in decreasing the water demand by adhering to the water restrictions and reducing their water consumption.

“In addition, we would like to plead with the residents across Tshwane for their co-operation during this period of water restrictions.”
