20 Mams families receive fresh veggies

Boitumelo Nkosi of Msfab said the generous donations of fresh vegetables was to encourage the community members to eat healthy food.

A local organisation continues to serve the Mamelodi community by donating to disadvantaged families.

On Sunday, the members of Msfab Events donated fresh vegetables to 20 families.

Boitumelo Nkosi of Msfab said the generous donations of fresh vegetables was to encourage the community members to eat healthy food.

Nkosi said around May she opened her fruit and veg store because she was inspired by the experiences she has had in volunteering for different NPOs for more than a decade now.

“I have a strong sense that my clients and others will share my instincts to give back to the community,” said Nkosi.

However, she added that this could not be possible without the help of Xesha South Africa who came on board.

“Donating veggies to poor families will at least help the families not to sleep on empty stomachs and we are happy to be making a change in our different communities,” said Nkosi.

MSfab is a skills development NPO that teaches children of Mamelodi about handwork and also help out with other social issues,” said Nkosi.

The organisation was formed two years ago to help boys and girls with sanitary towels and toiletries as well as child-headed families with food parcels around Mamelodi.

Msfab Events raise funds by hosting aerobics sessions at weekends and participants donate by bringing a pack of sanitary pads, bath soap, deodorants and other personal hygiene products.

Recently the organisation donated six months of sanitary towels to Umthombo Primary school in Mamelodi West to the grades 5 to 7 learners.

Nkosi said in total the school has received sanitary towels that would last the school up to 12 months “as we have covered the first quarter in January already”.

In July, the members of Msfab went to Shirinda primary school where they further donated four months’ worth of sanitary towels to grades 5 to 7.

She said she was proud that she has done something for the community of Mamelodi adding the schoolgirls can now look forward to going to school every day without any stress.

“The learners were taught about what is happening monthly with their bodies and we don’t want to see schoolgirls missing out on schooling every month because of menstruation.”

Nkosi pleaded with local businessmen to help their community with donations, especially to the needy.
