Metro to continue maintenance of cemeteries

Grass cutting and other maintenance are to be done at Pretoria cemeteries.

The Tshwane metro is going to continue the maintenance of 36 cemeteries in Pretoria.

The cemeteries are situated in all seven regions of Pretoria.

“The cleaning of the facilities is done continually while the cutting of the grass is a seasonal activity,” said metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

It will be most important during the upcoming rainy seasons. Other repairs are done only when required. This may include fixing taps and leaking pipes.

“Due to the various internal and external resources and the various tenders that are used for maintenance, the cost of maintenance will be difficult to determine,” said Mashigo.

“We use an interdepartmental maintenance team from the Group Property Department to address the maintenance needs of facilities.”

The metro has employed Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers and has also deployed various tenders to help with specific maintenance needs.
