Rietgat policewomen round off Women’s Month at local plaza
'With these gifts, we want to show you how compassionate and empathetic we are as the station. We know and feel the pain you are going through when gun-toting robbers brandish guns in front of you.'
Rietgat police together with the local CPF closed off Women’s Month by visiting the Batho shopping plaza to interact and hand out gifts to women.
Police spokesperson Stephen Maluleka said during the visit, police interacted with female cashiers, security guards, managers and cleaners.
Maluleka said the visit was aimed at local women, mainly because of spates of business robberies plaguing the area.
He said in more ways than one, these women found themselves in harm’s way.
Captain Xolisiwe Mashilo, who led the policewomen, said they understood the daily challenges the women faced.
The police handed out gifts to women at the shopping mall.
“With these gifts, we want to show you how compassionate and empathetic we are as the station. We know and feel the pain you are going through when gun-toting robbers brandish guns in front of you.
“It’s not easy as women to cope through such experiences, but we are with you all the way, and we want you to always remember that your pain is our pain.”
Tshepiso Moeketsi, who also received gifts, said they were grateful and delighted to receive something from the police.
Maluleka said the police women went further to issue out affidavits and certify documents for the shoppers while dishing out flyers on gender-based violence such as rape, sexual assaults and substance abuse.
“The police also encouraged women to use the 08600 10111 number to contact the police when they experienced any form of abuse in the hands of their spouses, boyfriends, uncles, fathers as well as siblings.”
The station commander Colonel Stephina Nkosi said on behalf of the entire station they would like to tell women in their policing precinct that they love, appreciate and care for them.
Nkosi said the women must not trade their womanhood for anything because women were very important in society.
