Eleos community get spoiled on Spring Day
"We strive to demonstrate love and compassion to a deprived community and attend to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs and well-being."
The Eleos community centre in Pretoria this week joined forces with Daspoort Poly clinic on Spring Day on September 1, where a group of ladies served coffee to give something back to the community.
Together with the celebration of summer, 50 members were also vaccinated.
Marketing manager of the centre, Clarize Botha said 50 more residents will receive their jab next week.
“We strive to demonstrate love and compassion to a deprived community and attend to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs and well-being.
“Our main objective is to care for and assist less fortunate children and their families through the facilitation of early intervention and social welfare programmes.
“All our activities and workshops are aimed to provide the necessary skills, tools and confidence to implement change and a better future. We believe in investing in people’s lives in much the same way.”
The programmes of the Eleos community centre are all focused on building stronger families to bring about a stronger community.
“One of our programmes, giGgles (girls-in-God-growing-loving-eating-sharing) focuses on empowering woman to become the mothers, wives, friends, and community helpers that they were meant to be.
“The programmes offer the opportunity for spiritual support and guidance, building self-esteem and working on relationship skills.
“This programme is supported by two sister programmes, parental support on Tuesdays and stimulation and activity classes for mums and babies on Thursdays. Giving back to the community is part of developing and growing into woman of action,” she said.
Botha added that Covid-19 has touched all our lives and grace is much needed in the community.
“As there is no vaccination centre in our area, Daspoort Poly clinic decided to bring the vaccine to the people.
“The combined team from the family medicine and public health department of the University of Pretoria will vaccinate at the NG Kerk Booysens, Zama Zama and Melusi soon.
“This is made possible in collaboration with Tshwane district health services and Gauteng Department of Health.”

Eleos has been supporting families in Pretoria West through various life transitions, since 1998.
Some of the projects and groups that form part of Eleos, are early childhood development (ECD), occupational and speech therapy, Booysens Beertjies play school, after-school care facilities, peak pals project, Agapé ladies group, Man Alive group, a cookie as well as knitting projects.
Eleos are also involved in kids’ camps as most of the children in the groups come from poor socio-economic circumstances. They are often not accustomed to regular meals, beds or a carefree lifestyle.
“We do this by building personal relationships in all our group projects,” Botha concluded.
