Man arrested for alleged murder of Eersterust resident
This is the second murder and second attempted murder reported in Kanna Avenue in Eersterust.
A 26-year-old man suspected of murdering a 35-year-old man in Kanna Avenue, Eersterust on Friday last week, was arrested by the Eersterust police on Tuesday.
“The suspect was arrested at his hideout in Luluberg Road,” said the Eersterust police station spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo.
The victim was shot and killed after two perpetrators opened fire on the victim and his friend.
“The suspect and his accomplice allegedly fired a barrage of shots at him and his friend. The victim was shot in the upper body and he succumbed to his injuries on the scene. His friend (38) survived the shooting but suffered a serious gunshot wound,” said Shibambo.
The police launched an investigation into the latest murder on Friday and received an outpour of information from residents.
“Our persistent and meticulous investigation was able to point us in the direction of the suspects. The community also flooded us with calls about the whereabouts of the said suspects. Eyewitnesses also assisted in identifying them,” said Shibambo.
The police received a tip-off about the suspects’ whereabouts on Tuesday morning at around 10:00. It led them to Luluberg Road, only a few streets down from where the victim was shot and killed.
“The suspect was arrested and detained on charges of murder and attempted murder.
“The detained suspect has since been linked to another attempted murder case where a victim was also shot at, but survived the shooting,” he said.
The police are still investigating and are hoping to arrest the second suspect soon. The 26-year-old alleged murder suspect is set to appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Thursday, September 9 on charges of murder and attempted murder.
