A purrfect start to spring at north animal shelter

“The spring cleaning was a great success and we even got a few adoptions from this positive event.”

Wollies animal shelter in the north of Pretoria kicked off the first weekend of spring with a clean-up at its cattery.

On Saturday the shelter invited volunteers and community members to join in on the spring cleaning to get the cat shelters clean and looking almost new.

Old and young joined in with buckets, scrubs and brushes from 09:00 to 15:00.

“The kennels and cattery Wendy houses really needed a proper scrub to get them ready for the summer. Our fantastic supporters helped immensely and we are so very grateful to each and every one who helped,” said Wollies owner Cilla Trexler.

“The spring cleaning was a great success and we even got a few adoptions from this positive event.”

The volunteers enjoyed cooldrinks, ice-creams and hotdogs that were on sale as they worked away to get the cat shelters spotless.

A group called “Katkaskenades” not only joined in the clean-up but also brought cat and dog food to the shelter.

“We are so lucky to have such a great community and even though it was tough work, it actually turned out to be very enjoyable for both the people and our animals,” said Trexler.

The next event Trexler said would be a “doggy bath day”.

“We will keep an eye on the weather and pick a hot sunny day to spoil the dogs.”
