Wounded Soshanguve robber caught at Montana hospital
Two suspects, one wounded in the head, apparently rushed to a hospital in Montana seeking treatment.
Two suspected robbers involved in a shootout with police in Soshanguve were caught after seeking medical treatment at a hospital in Montana.
On Friday afternoon, Sinoville police arrested two people suspected of robbing a woman in Soshanguve and shooting at a police officer.
“The two suspects in their getaway vehicle had rushed to Montana hospital after one sustained a head wound in a shootout with a police officer,” said Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.
Van Dyk said the suspects had apparently robbed a woman at gunpoint in Soshanguve.
“A police officer on duty who witnessed the robbery, responded. The suspects opened fire on him and he responded, firing shots at their vehicle.”
Van Dyk said when a vehicle covered in bullet holes arrived at Montana hospital, police were alerted.
“The suspects pretended to be victims of a hijack. The story they told police officers did not add up and kept changing,” Van Dyk said.
“Investigating further, police received the information about the earlier robbery and could connect the suspects to the robbery and shootout.”
The uninjured suspect was arrested and his wounded companion was transferred to a state hospital under police guard.
