Organisation striving towards making community clean
Community Caring Forum embarked on yet another cleaning project and this time it was the corner of Garsfontein Road and Rubenstein Drive.
A community forum in the east of Pretoria has for the past three weeks been cleaning rubble and dirt at one of the entrances to Morelata Park with the aim of uplifting the community.
Community Caring Forum embarked on yet another cleaning project and this time it was the corner of Garsfontein Road and Rubenstein Drive.
Community Caring Forum director Deirdré van Helsdingen said she started a cleaning initiative in 2018, to drive projects to uplift the Moreleta Park suburb.
“I was sick and tired of the dilapidated condition of our sidewalks and commenced with this initiative to improve the aesthetical look of the suburb.
“We cannot sit and complain, but do not put action on our complaints,” she said.
She said the latest project was aimed at cleaning all the main entrances to Moreleta Park.
“I would like to see a beautiful, well managed suburb with painted street lines, working streetlights, no potholes, short and maintained grass – that is our goal,” she said.

“We live in times where we cannot depend on government and municipalities to service our suburbs in full. If we do not take control of our suburb and keep the government accountable, our properties will lose their value and bring down the whole suburb, ” she said.
Van Helsdingen said they were able to strive towards their goals through having full-time employees who worked during weekdays and sometimes at weekends.
“We are working on donations. As long as we receive income we will uplift the suburb,” she said.
She implored on community members to assist in the clean-ups by either volunteering or donating.
“We have 16 000 households in Moreleta Park. If each household paid R95, we would have a turnover of R1 520 000 per month. In return the residents receive the CASI safety application. The household then has 24-hour access to a control room in case of an emergency.”
