Man busted in Pta CBD for allegedly forging official home affairs documents

The arrest came after members of the public complained to police officers about a man illegally authorising official documents outside a Department of Home Affairs branch.

A 35-year-old man was arrested for fraud and forgery of official documents in Pretoria CBD on Thursday.

The arrest came after members of the public complained to police officers about a man illegally authorising official documents outside a Department of Home Affairs branch, according to Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

“Officers from region 4 in Centurion were driving along Nana Sita Street near home affairs when they received the complaint,” said Mahamba.

He said the officers apprehended the suspect and he was searched.

“They found him with a Department of Home Affairs stamp and forged documents.”

He said after the officers questioned the suspect, the man took them to the premises where he prints his documents.

“The man described it as his office. Inside his ‘office’, the officers found two Department of Home Affairs stamps, forged asylum documents, passports for different countries, temporary South African documents and forged pay slip documents. They also found a laptop and two printers.”

Mahamba said the man was then arrested.

He was expected to appear in court soon.
