Local elections: One less coalition possibility for ANC
“We won’t now give them a second chance by forming a coalition with them.”
There was one less coalition government possibility which the ANC could consider in a bid to gain a majority as the counting of votes came to an end in the local government elections on Thursday.
“We’ve been very clear that we will not form a coalition with the ANC because it is quite clear that the voters out there are dissatisfied with the ANC. That it why a lot of them stayed away on Monday or they voted for a different political party,” VF Plus national head of elections and member of parliament Wouter Wessels said.
“We won’t now give them a second chance by forming a coalition with them. They’ve had their chance to govern and their policies are detrimental to local government.”
However, Wessels said that they were open to form a coalition government with other political parties.
“That is why we would rather form a coalition with other parties to keep the ANC out. That is our policy on coalitions and we will go into negotiations on that basis.”

He made the remarks as the clock continued to tick for the outcome of the local government elections, which were held on Monday, to be announced.
The political party currently held the fifth spot with a total of 7.87% of the votes in the Tshwane metro.
The VF Plus had previously come in at the fourth spot, but was booted down by newcomer Action SA.
Action SA, which currently held the fourth spot with 8.63% of the votes, was launched earlier this year with former Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba at the helm.

On Wednesday, the party’s mayoral candidate for Tshwane Abel Tau said while they were leading just behind the EFF. It indicated that they were a “serious force to be reckoned with”.
He added that he was hopeful that their political party would form part of the governing coalition in the metro.
“If we are not in government our people must rest assured that we will lead from behind in the opposition benches.”
Meanwhile, the EFF held the third spot with 10.67% of the votes.
The second and first spot were held by the DA and ANC, respectively.
