The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) with the South African Police Service (SAPS) went full swing the weekend in the Sunnyside area, conducting searches of businesses, vehicles and people.
This as the TMPD with the SAPS conducted a joint crime prevention operation on Saturday to curb the scourge of crime in Tshwane.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the TMPD was mandated to perform its three core functions within the city, which includes crime prevention, road policing and by-law enforcement.
“Six people were arrested. Among these six, two were arrested for possession of illegal firearms and dangerous weapons.”
Mahamba said one was arrested for drunk driving, while others were arrested for criminal offences such as drinking in public, dealing in dagga and breaking Covid-19 regulations.

“Also, 54 Aarto fines were issued for those who were in contravention of the rules of the road. Nine businesses were visited where four fines were issued to those who contravened business regulations.”
He said 24 people were searched, and two knives were confiscated from a mentally challenged person.

“Some 349 vehicles were inspected, 206 Aarto fines were issued, and six vehicles impounded. Road safety pamphlets were also given to 200 vehicles to promote safety on the roads.”

Mahamba said these operations would be conducted throughout the festive season and beyond.
“Members of the public are encouraged to report any crime to their nearest SAPS station or the TMPD on 012 358 7095/7096.”
