New MMC visits development projects
The visited sites included the Refilwe Stadium, HM Pitjie Stadium as well as the Caledonian Stadium.
Some construction projects in Tshwane were delayed as a result of contractual disputes.
This is according to the MMC for community and social development services who has been conducting oversight visits to some of the biggest projects related to her department.
“These oversight visits form part of my overall plan to assess and evaluate all the projects and programmes that fall within my department,” she said.
“One of the key objectives of my visit was to check the status of our main capital projects within the city.”
De Bruin visited three stadiums, Refilwe, HM Pitjie and Caledonian.
Her visit also included one to the food bank where food packages are prepared for the less advantaged.
She said the administration of the food bank was one of the most integral services that ensured the most vulnerable citizens in the metro were looked after.
“It is, therefore, critical that all these projects are performing at their best, for the benefit of our residents,” she said.

“Some projects I know have faced delays due to several issues ranging from contractual disputes and at times community unrest.
“However, I along with officials from the department will come up with catch up plans that will ensure that these projects are once again back on schedule for completion.”
She said while sport events have taken a huge blow due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the stadiums needed to be ready and in good standing by the time residents are allowed back to watch live games.
De Bruin said she found it important to get a full understanding of the work that has been done to enable her team to drive quality service delivery to residents.
