Maritimo coach sends strong warning to SAB League teams
“Those who defeated us in the first round will meet us again in the second round and we will use our next meetings as opportunities to deal with them,” says Maritimo coach.
Club Sport Maritimo head coach Selby ‘Sfuba’ Sihlangu has warned that his team would give its competitors a hard time in the SAB League.
“I am angry and disappointed that Maritimo did not play well in the first round of the league when it was coached by another coach but now I am the team’s head coach and ready to pay revenge to the teams that defeated us,” Sfuba told Rekord.
He said together with his assistant coaches Katlego Motau and Thato Mawela, they were on a mission of turning the tables around.
“Those who defeated us in the first round will meet us again in the second round and we will use our next meetings as opportunities to deal with them,” he said.
He said the current history depicts that it was feasible to achieve their objective of being one of the top four teams in the SAB log standings.
According to the team’s performance since Sfuba took over as the head coach again, the team has played five matches, notching three wins, one loss and one draw.
“Since taking over from the previous coach, I have defeated Mountain Movers FC 3-0, Cullinan FC 4-0 and Mamas All Stars 1-0.
“I have, however, suffered 3-1 loss to University of Pretoria and played 1-1 draw against Pretoria Athletic Club.”
He said when taking over as the head coach in December last year after the team had lost five games, drew two and won only one under the leadership of another coach.
“After a poor performance the previous coach vacated his position before I took over.”
He said prior to the new appointment, he actually joined the Maritimo as the head coach in 2020-2021 season. Under his leadership the team completed the season in the top three, he said.
“When taking over again in December, the team was in the third spot from the bottom of the log standings, now it is in the top eight. We are now in the eighth spot of the log standings with 15 points.”
Maritimo will play Vikings FC at Maritimo stadium at 15:00 on Saturday.
The Vikings are 13th on log standings with 11 points.
This might be a difficult match for Maritimo since Vikings will be fighting to move away from the relegation zone. Maritimo, however, has a mission to be in the top four and to realise such dream, they will have to win the upcoming matches.
