Metro police find thousands worth of illicit cigarettes in Wierdabrug home

In addition to a charge of selling unlawful cigarettes, the man arrested was charged with bribery after trying to offer R500 to the TMPD officers.

A man was arrested in Centurion after metro police found an estimated R57 000 worth of illicit cigarettes in a Wierdabrug home this week.

According to a statement by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), an additional charge of bribery was added after the man tried to offer R500 to the officers during the drug bust.

“TMPD tactical unit members and crime intelligence responded to a tip-off about a male who deals with illicit cigarettes from his home in Wierdabrug,” the TMPD statement read.

“The officers went to the premises and found the man [there].

“They searched the premises and found different kinds of cigarette packs with an estimated street value of R57 000.

“He was arrested for dealing in illicit cigarettes, an additional charge of bribery was added after trying to offer R500 to the officers.”
