Local skipping rope jumper sets yet another record

The previous record was 100 364 and was surpassed by the 21-year-old in 10 hours, 59 minutes and 26 seconds. He then pushed the record to 105 000 skips – a whole 4 636 more than the previous record.

A former eighth-time South African kickboxer from the east of Pretoria, SD Heijns, broke the Guinness World record for the most skips with a rope in 12 hours this past weekend.

The previous record was 100 364 and was surpassed by the 21-year-old in 10 hours, 59 minutes and 26 seconds.

He then pushed the record to 105 000 skips – 4 636 more than the previous record.

In the process, he also broke the eight-hour record that he set up earlier this year at the Maslow Hotel, Times Square, by 3 514 skips.

SD Heijns after his first attempt to set a new world skipping rope record earlier this year.

Both records were previously held by Sella Rosa Rega of New York.

Heijns will soon start his preparation for the 24-hour record within the next week.

This is an exceptional accomplishment, as he broke three world records in less than two months.

“I want my championship mentality to prove to everyone that if you put your mind to it, anything is possible.

“Don’t ever bother yourself with negative comments. I believed in myself,” he said.

Heijns said that when great accomplishments are achieved, we seldom realise how many people are involved in supporting that dream.

“I am truly honoured to have legends behind me every step of the way. Without my family, coaches, technical support and sponsors none of this would have been possible. I am forever thankful for the faith you all had in me. The sky is the limit and we’ve only just started.

“Look how far we have come. With hundreds of hours of training and the input and work of a few key people’s efforts are priceless. I can proudly announce that yet another record has fallen.”

Heijns wants to dedicate this record to the unheard, the forgotten, the underestimated and anyone who has ever felt like their dreams don’t follow the social norm.

“I would also like to dedicate this attempt to those who feel like they just don’t fit in everyone’s box. I hope this record inspires you to follow your heart and ignore all the negativity around us and just to be yourself and become the best version possible.”
