Rietgat police nab 37 for various crimes

Rietgat police arrested 37 people for various crimes in the policing precinct over the weekend.

“Police continue to make arrests without fear, favour or prejudice and ensuring that the inhabitants of the precinct are and feel safe at all times,” said police spokesperson Stephen Maluleka.

Maluleka said those arrested were detained and charged for inter alia: assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, murder, kidnapping, common assault, armed robbery, dealing in drugs, possession of drugs, rape, malicious damage to property, house robbery, intimidation, housebreaking, theft and contravention of protection order among others.

“Among the 37 arrested, seven had committed common robbery within the policing precinct.”

Acting Rietgat station commander Colonel Dinah Tabane commended the police for their efforts.

“I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the officers who continue to serve with pride and integrity. I also would like to thank the community without which we cannot win the battle against crime for their whistle-blowing efforts,” Tabane said.

Maluleka said all arrested suspects will appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court in due course.
