Body of a six-day-old baby found in dustbin
Paramedics were unable to revive the baby boy and he was declared dead on the scene.
A body of a six-day-old baby boy was found in a dumpster in Heliodor Street in Laudium on Wednesday morning.
Laudium Disaster Management were called to the scene around 09:30 after being informed by a resident.
Netcare were also shortly on the scene after receiving a call about an unconscious person.
“When we arrived on the scene at approximately 09:39, we found members of the public doing CPR on an infant.
“Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners immediately took over resuscitation efforts.
“The baby, estimated to be approximately six days old, wrapped in clothes placed in a plastic bag, was found by a man rummaging through a dustbin,” said Netcare media liaison officer Shawn Herbst.
Despite the best efforts of the paramedics, the baby’s condition rapidly deteriorated and was sadly declared deceased a short while later.
Circumstances leading up to the baby being found in the dustbin will be investigated by the Laudium SAPS who were on the scene.
