Rietgat SAPS nab four suspects with stolen goods

A tip-off from a resident led the police to suspects entering a sliver grey Mercedes Benz. Police conducted an organised ambush.

The Rietgat police arrested four men for possession of an array of stolen items during a co-ordinated ambush in the early hours of Wednesday.

A resident’s tip-off led them to suspects entering a silver grey Mercedes Benz. Police conducted an organised ambush.

Police seized unregistered firearms, cash and ammunition as well as alleged stolen cellphones, bank statements, and a passport.

The suspects, aged between 36 and 42 were arrested and taken to the Mabopane station.

The acting station commander Colonel Dinah Tabane commended her fellow officers for the bust and for ensuring that additional illegal firearms do not enter the community.

“I am very grateful to everyone who made sure that these suspects are arrested and our citizens remain safe.”

Among the seized goods were eight cellphones, two illegal firearms and 10 live rounds of ammunition.

Colonel Tabane said “It is very heartwarming to remove two firearms at a go, through a community tip-off which simply means that our community is heeding a call of working together with the police”.

The four suspects will appear before the Soshanguve magistrate’s court to face the charges.
