A desperate search is on for a 44-year-old male who went missing while fishing on Thursday near Eagle Waters in Hartbeespoort.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Strategic Rescue Unit (SRU) and the South African police launched a search operation after the man was reported missing by family.
It is believed that the Pretoria man was celebrating his birthday with his wife and children at the dam on the day.
The man was reported to have been fishing in a canoe out on the dam’s waters when his family lost sight of him.

“NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam, SRU and the South African Police Services initiated a search operation.
“Despite an extensive search, no sign of the missing man was found,” said NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
Lambinon said the canoe the man was fishing in was found capsised and filled with water after getting caught in fishing nets about 100 meters from the shore.
Lambinon said a search had continued from Thursday into Saturday, with the assistance of police divers.
He said a police vessel supported the NSRI in their extensive search operation for the missing man.
