Renew your gun licence – Rietgat police

Firearm owners must renew their licences themselves and not delegate the task to a third party.

The Rietgat police have reminded gun owners to renew their expired licences in person.

This follows a Constitutional Court judgment in which it ruled that possession of a firearm without a valid licence or other authorisation is unlawful and constitutes an offence.

The police said to comply with regulations regarding renewals, gun owners could not delegate the renewal to a third party or sell guns if the licence has expired.

Local gun owners, who wish to renew their licences, are to visit their designated firearm officer (DFO) at Phuthanong satellite station in Block HH for more information.

For more information, contact DFO Warrant Officer Nortje on 071 675 6238 (only for firearms queries).
