Soshanguve community receive free health screening
People also got flu vaccines and was spoiled with a free hot cup of soup in the cold weather.
Botshilu private hospital hosted a health screening and education event in Soshanguve to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day on Saturday.
The hospital partnered with a clinic in Block JJ to conduct the HIV/Aids screening and administer the Covid-19 vaccines and boosters.
Botshilu stakeholder relationship manager Boitumelo Mphake said they wanted to refocus on the health challenges that were overlooked at the height of the pandemic.

“And it is in us to educate and encourage the community to continue taking care of themselves by monitoring their blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and checking their HIV and Aids statuses,” Mphake said.
“Covid-19 is no longer as infectious as it was back in 2019 when it started, and this is due to the stringent measures that were put in place to curb the spread.
“However, we had and still have patients suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and other health challenges that require the same amount of attention.

Mphake said they wanted to bring the focus back on the medical conditions that were neglected during the height of the pandemic.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
“As this year’s Nelson Mandela Day theme, the hospital took the little resources at its disposal and used them towards the health and well-being of the community it serves,” he said.

CEO and founder of the hospital, Dr Jacky Rampedi said on the day, people also got flu vaccines and were spoiled with a free hot cup of soup in the cold weather.
“Although the hospital adopted five NGOs from the community in the past, this year we planned to maximise the impact, by targeting a wider audience, rather than a focused group or one organisation.
“We believe in making a sustainable impact that will enhance the quality of life and health for many, and we will continuously reach out to the community to educate, inform and assist with all the health-related issues,” he said.
