One killed, three injured in horrific R21 crash

A delivery car crashed into a stationary light motor vehicle with four occupants.

A man believed to be in his 30s was killed in a crash between a delivery truck and a light motor vehicle in the early hours of Wednesday.

The crash happened a few minutes before 04:00 on the R21 road in the Olifantsfontein area left another man in a critical condition while two more suffered moderate injuries.

Emergency services Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, said four men, all believed to be in their 30s were in a stationary light motor vehicle when the truck crashed into them.

“The four men suffered injuries and on closer inspection two of them were entrapped in the wreckage,” he said.

“One had suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead by paramedics, while the second was in a critical condition.”

He said emergency care practitioners worked hard to stabilise the critical patient before he was taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

“The two passengers that suffered moderate injuries were treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” he added.

Van Reenen said the truck occupants were not injured.

The exact cause of the collision is unknown at this stage and will form part of the police investigation.
