Four ‘school robbers setting fire’ to appear in court
Only the principal’s office was set alight so other operations would continue as usual.
The four men who allegedly broke into Olievenhoutbosch Secondary School and stole equipment before setting the building alight face charges of business burglary, arson and attempted murder.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said in the early hours of Sunday around 05:19, men aged between 22 and 42 broke into the school.
Speaking to Rekord, Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said only the principal’s office was set alight so other operations would continue as usual.
“This is sad because some community members target our schools and steal equipment,” he said.
“They also vandalise these schools instead of protecting them.”
Mabona said officials will be sent to the school to assess the damage.
He said the department will assist the school to rebuild and repurchase the lost infrastructure.
Mabaso said when the firefighters arrived at the scene, the principal’s office and its contents had already been completely destroyed.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the police were informed that three suspects raided the school and fired at the patrollers guarding the property.
She said the two patrollers hid and were unharmed.
The four men will to appear in court on charges of business burglary, arson, and attempted murder soon.
