WATCH: Thieves take cash and fill up getaway car during Pretoria petrol garage robbery

A worrisome crime trend is developing as two petrol stations were robbed in two days by five suspects in different suburbs in Pretoria.

Five men robbed a petrol station of cash and stole fuel for their getaway car before escaping from the crime scene in Silvertondale on Tuesday.

A silver Haval stopped at the Total garage around 22:55 on Tuesday with five people inside. Four men went into the garage store pretending to be shopping before attacking the staff.

Police spokesperson Warrant officer Isaac Mculu confirmed the robbery.

He said one suspect stayed in the car waiting for his accomplices to finish robbing the garage of cash.

“The car stopped at the drive-way and four men got into the store pretending to buy.
“Two of them were armed and they took out guns and demanded that the staff and a customer lay down.”

Mculu said the suspects went into the cash office and stole money.

He said they also looted the store of cigarettes.

“They forcefully took a tag from a petrol attendant and filled their vehicle with fuel and drove away.”

The staff looked traumatised by the robbery, Mculu said.

This was not an isolated petrol station robbery.

Nkuna said that the robbers made off with an undisclosed amount from the cash register, as well as cash and a cellphone from a customer in the store.
One of the victims said the suspects escaped in a white or grey “jeep looking” vehicle.
A video circulating on social media shows the gunmen raiding the cash register at the Pick ‘n Pay express at Eldo Glen while an employee ducks in fear of the armed men.
Police have not found the suspects at this stage and are calling for anyone with more information to come forward.
Police said the suspects driving in a Haval could be the same group behind the two petrol station robberies.

Police have urged residents who have any information about the robberies to call 08600 10111/112.
