Ga-Rankuwa police get new commander
Brigadier Paballo Nkosi says her experience working in stations that have a number of crime hotspots like Jukulyn and Sunnyside will come in handy.
Newly appointed Ga-Rankuwa police station commander Brigadier Paballo Nkosi says she’s ready to use her vast experience to fight crime in Ga-Rankuwa.
Nkosi was acting station commander at Pretoria North Saps, and station commander at Rietgat Saps from 2019-2021.
She also worked at Sunnyside police as a visible policing commander for six months.
She said her experience working in stations that have a number of crime hotspots like Jukulyn and Sunnyside will come in handy in her fight against crime in Ga-Rankuwa.
“I’ve started implementing the same strategies that I had implemented while I was in Rietgat and it is going to assist the community at large,” she said.
She said some of the ideas that she has started implementing are community engagements and awareness campaigns.
“The community will, when you start engaging with them, start reporting crime,” she said.
Nkosi added that she will work on regaining the trust of the community as some still have the perspective that the police are not working.
“This promotion has motivated me and I’m going to work harder to fight crime,” she said.
She said the new crime trend in Ga-Rankuwa, truck hijacking, needed attention.
“People call those with trucks to come to pick up something like TLBs only to hijack them when they get there.”
Truck hijackings have been rife for about two months.
“We haven’t received any cases in the last two weeks since we categorised it as a trending crime. We have patrollers checking the area with the support of Zondi patrols,” she said.
Station spokesperson Shimi Tsheole said officers at the station are happy to have someone who has extensive experience as their leader.
