Tshwane municipality distances itself from bogus vacancy adverts circulating on social media

“The move is a desperate attempt by criminals to swindle money out of unsuspecting residents.”

The Tshwane metro has warned residents about a bogus job vacancy scam that has been doing the rounds on social media networks on Tuesday.

The metro’s warning comes after a bogus advert for vacancies was circulated widely on social media.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the posts were not from the city and urged all residents to ignore the ad.

“We have noted the misleading message making the rounds on social media, emails, and various applications, inviting jobless people to fill revenue agents’ vacancies.

“This false communication, which came to the city’s attention recently, is calling on members of the community to take up the 80 available posts on a six-month fixed term contract for which they will be remunerated R6 000 to assist in revenue collection, delivery of disconnection notices and other duties.”

Mashigo said this was a desperate attempt by criminals to swindle residents out of their hard-earned cash this festive season, adding that the community should be vigilant of such scams.

“We wish to warn those who are peddling such false information that they will be arrested, charged, and prosecuted, as their actions border on criminality.”

The metro has been a target for criminals for the past years.

Two years ago residents were lured to apply for a bogus administration clerk vacancy in the metropolitan municipality, which was also circulated via social media networks.
