Suideberg pharmacist attacked and assaulted

She was tied up with wire after being stabbed and had to lie helplessly on the floor until help eventually arrived after two hours.

A pharmacist from Suiderberg was tied up with wire and stabbed with a kitchen knife after she was ambushed by a man outside her home at 08:00 on Thursday, December 15.

Kitty Venter said she had to lie helplessly on the floor until help eventually arrived after two hours.

She says she is now so scared and can’t be alone.

“It’s just the worst time for this to happen. We are supposed to be celebrating Christmas, it’s supposed to be a happy time.”

She said that the words “I am going to kill you” keep popping up in her head, leaving her traumatised and unable to be alone.

Venter was leaving for work at 08:00 on Thursday morning when she was attacked. The assailant, a young man, tied her arms behind her back and her legs together using wire, so tight she quickly lost feeling in her hands and feet. She was stabbed in the arm using a kitchen knife and left helplessly on the floor.

Venter said that her mind took her to the worst places as she worried that she would be raped or assaulted again. But she also found herself worrying that the customers at her work would be stuck outside.

Venter is a diabetic and she worried for her health as she lay on the floor.

Just after 10:00, Venter said her angel arrived to help her. When she didn’t arrive for work, her colleagues immediately became worried and sent someone to her home to check on her and to call her husband.

Venter said that the incident was especially traumatising because it was the third time she has been attacked and tied up. On two previous occasions, she had been tied up and had a gun pointed at her head during robberies at work. But Venter said this experience was worse because it happened at her home.

“I was tied up both previous times, but this one hurt me too.”

“I want to warn other women, and I want something to be done about this,” she said.

She said that her family had been complaining about uncut grass and a lack of services in the area giving more opportunities for criminals to attack people in the community.

Venter said she has sought counselling, and contacted Crime Ops to get a panic button she can carry around her neck.

A case has been opened with the SAPS.
