Tshwane residents encouraged to continue using water sparingly

Gauteng continues to be a water-scarce province and conserving water remains critical to protecting the water systems.

MMC for utility services Daryl Johnson has encouraged residents to continue using water sparingly.

Pretoria is still on stage 1 water restrictions.

“This is the level which the metro was at before the recent water problems, and the level we have been at for many years now,” he said.

Gauteng continues to be a water-scarce province and conserving water remains critical to protecting the water system.

“The reality is that water scarcity challenges are not likely to go away entirely and so this means that we need to continue to use water sparingly,” he said.

He added that the metro will continue to work towards building capacity to prevent such outages in the future.

“The upkeep of the water network and reservoirs is continuously done on a weekly basis to prevent water interruptions,” he said.

The following restrictions are applicable during stage 1:

– Do not water or irrigate gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes or high-pressure systems.

Please note this will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
