Use alternative ways to get your grants, says Sassa
Sassa gold card holders may continue using the same card as it is valid at any establishment that accepts bank card transactions.
Sassa urged beneficiaries to use alternative methods of collecting their funds in 2023.
Although Sassa says that it was on track to pay out grants to beneficiaries for January 2023, starting from the 3rd, they are urging recipients to use alternative methods of collection.
Beneficiaries can use retailers and ATMs while Sassa gold card holders may continue using the same card as it is valid at any establishment that accepts bank card transactions.
“Older person grants will be paid first (today, Tuesday, January 3) followed by disability grants (Wednesday, January 4) and child support grants (Thursday, January 5),” said Sassa spokesperson Moabi Pitsi.
“If the second day of the month falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment will take place on the following workday,”
Sassa gold cards can also be used at stores that provide cashback functionality. These include Checkers, U-save, Pick n Pay and Boxer.
Beneficiaries are also advised to exercise caution when collecting their funds.
“We continue to warn beneficiaries to remain vigilant of misleading information, criminals and scammers as the festive season draws to a close. During grant payment days, there are a lot of transactions clients make to meet their various needs. Sassa thus cautions clients to exercise care in accessing their social grants,” said Pitsi.
Some tips for beneficiaries include:
– Avoiding carrying large sums of money but rather use your card for transactions
– Ensuring you get your card back after each transaction
– Giving preference to the elderly, frail and disabled in the long queues.
Applicants of the R350 Covid grant were encouraged to visit the online platform to update their banking details as required.
“Sassa will keenly monitor the January payments to stick to paying the right social grant, to the right person, at the right time and place.”
