Look out for flooded areas — do not drive into the water
Tshwane emergency services reported that due to a cloud burst at around 14:00, two vehicles were reported to be stuck in different locations.
Motorists were urged to avoid Steve Biko Road and Johan Heyns Drive, as well as the entrance into Pretoria North via Rachel De Beer Street from the CBD, because of two flooding incidents.
Tshwane emergency services reported that due to a cloud burst at around 14:00, two vehicles were reported to be stuck in different locations.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the first incident occurred on Steve Biko Road and Johan Heyns Drive, where a vehicle was stuck in the water.
“All the vehicle’s occupants managed to get to safety and no injuries were reported,” he said.

The other incident occurred at the entrance into Pretoria North via Rachel De Beer Street.
“Occupants, however, also managed to get to safety and no injuries were reported.”
Mabaso added that the Tshwane metro police were notified of both incidents, which may lead to traffic congestion around these areas.
A level 2 warning for disruptive rain over Pretoria has been issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on January 5.
The warning highlighted the possibility of:
– Localised flooding of susceptible informal settlements or low-lying roads.
– Difficult driving conditions due to wet roads or pooling of water on roads with possible minor vehicle accidents affecting the afternoon commute.
– Difficult driving conditions on dirt roads.
Motorists are advised to stay indoors and off the roads as well as to avoid crossing flooded roads and swollen streams.
Mabaso said that the Tshwane Emergency Services was monitoring all potential flooding hotspots and urged residents to report any life-threatening incidents to the 107 toll-free number.
