Health dept warns residents against job and bursary scam
Residents are cautioned to never pay any money in exchange for employment.
The Gauteng health department has warned residents against job and bursary scam “advertisements” that have been doing the rounds.
According to the department, several people have reported receiving text messages inviting them to Steve Biko Academic Hospital for a job interview.
The department, however, said that applicants shortlisted for interviews would receive formal interview invitation letters and not text messages.
Another job scam circulating on social media invites jobseekers to apply for SA nursing internships and other job opportunities by having them submit their details to fake online portals.
The department said job scams of this nature “exploited the desperate socio-economic conditions of many people in the job market”.
It said community members must always be cautious and verify job and bursary advertisements circulated on social media platforms against those posted on the official websites.
Official platforms in which the department advertises vacancies and bursaries include the Gauteng online portal, the Department of Public Service and Administration website, official governmental social media platforms and mainstream newspapers.
Employment applications are not faxed but are rather sent via email, post, or physically dropped off at the respective medical care centres in question.
Residents were also cautioned to never pay any money in exchange for employment. Should someone be asked to, they should report the matter to the police immediately, as no money is required to apply for a job or bursary in the public sector.
