Police met by bullets in recovery of Pretoria hijacked vehicle
“An extensive manhunt is underway and it is only a matter of time before they’re captured.”
A shootout involving two suspects and police took place on Saturday when authorities responded to the scene of a hijacking in Doornpoort, north of Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase said a red Audi A3 was hijacked in Sunnyside.
Nkwalase said in a statement they had received information that the vehicle was being kept in a house on Striga Street, extension three in Doornpoort.
“On arrival at the premises the team was greeted with gunfire and two suspects fled across neighbouring properties on foot,” Nkwalase said.
“A search was subsequently conducted at an abandoned house and the team found the A3 Audi that was hijacked in Sunnyside, as well as a blue BMW One Series that was hijacked last year.”

He said police recovered several rifles including an R1, two dashprop rifles, three AK 47 rifles, explosives, different types of live ammunition as well as a money counting machine.
“All exhibits were seized for further exploration to ascertain if they were not linked to other crimes as the investigation continues,” he said.
Nkwalase added that no arrests had been made.
“An extensive manhunt is underway and it is only a matter of time before they’re captured.
“Residents are urged to contact authorities should they have any information relevant to the case,” he said.
