Local couple launches watch brand in the east
The launch was filled with various celebrities, influencers, artists, radio presenters and models who performed a fashion show later on the night.
A packed and sold-out Moonshine restaurant in Menlyn played host to the South African launch of Will and Jacob watches this April 25.
Willem Smith and Jacob Venter started the endeavour in Amsterdam after the idea was born during a trip to Greece.
The married couple of six years, who just had a baby daughter, say that the brand holds a special personal meaning to them.

“We love luxury items but have always found that they can be so expensive so we wanted to create an affordable watch that’s still stylish because we feel that everyone deserves that type of luxury,” Smith said.
The launch was filled with various celebrities, influencers, artists, radio presenters and models who performed a fashion show later on the night.
“Our watches are not only affordable but their quality, minimalistic, and bold pieces that are very comfy to wear,” said Venter.

Some of the most noticeable guests included Martin Bester from Jacaranda FM, artists like Franja du Plessis, Janie Bay, Jakkie Louw, Ivan Roux, Nádine, Zaan Sonnekus & Ruhan du Toit as well as famous influencers like Angelique Gerber.

“We want to thank all our family and friends because it’s important to have a support structure when going for something like this. We’ve had some dreams that have failed and succeeded and they stuck with us all the way,” Smith continued.
Will and Jacob are headed for Amsterdam next in May where they intend to do the European launch, but the homegrown Pretorians felt they needed to do one for South Africans.

“If you can dream it, you can do it, but only through perseverance,” Venter advised.
“I’ve had various dreams that haven’t worked but if you keep pushing, it’ll eventually come into fruition.”
