Water supply interruptions in Centurion set for June

“Rand Water notified the Water and Sanitation Department that they need to replace and upgrade the bulk water meter supplying the Olievenhoutbosch and Mnandi reservoirs,” reads a statement.

Water supply interruptions can be expected to affect parts of Centurion in a month, the Tshwane metro warned.

The work is scheduled for June 19. It will take place from 09:00 to 21:00.

“Rand Water notified the Water and Sanitation Department that they need to replace and upgrade the bulk water meter supplying the Olievenhoutbosch and Mnandi reservoirs,” the city’s group head for water and sanitation, Stephens Notoane, said in a statement.

The Mnandi Reservoir will be filled to maximum capacity before the shutdown.

Areas expected to be affected by the outage included:

– Acsionville

– Brakfontein

– Doornrandje

– Gerhardsville

– Areas surrounding the Hennops River

– Heuweloord

– Hoekplaats

– Honeypark

– Knopjeslaagte

– Mnandi

– Monavoni

– Mooiplaats

– Olievenhoutbosch

– Peach Tree

– Raslouw

– Stukgrond

– Sunderland Ridge

– Swartkop

– Vlakplaats

SAVE WATER AHEAD OF SUPPLY OUTAGE

Subsequently, Notoane implored residents to save water ahead of time and during the outage with the following tips:

– Do not water gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 -18:00.

– No washing vehicles with hosepipes.

– Refrain from filling up swimming pools.

– Use grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.

– Report water leaks, burst pipes and water wastage.

– Install water-saving devices, such as low-flow shower heads and tap aerators.

– Use dual-flush toilet cisterns.

– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant plants in the garden.

– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.

– Cover swimming pools to reduce water evaporation.

– Take a short shower rather than a bath.

– Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.

– Check toilets and taps for leaks.

– Collect rainwater to use in the garden or for car washing.

“Residents are urged to make [these] water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle,” Notoane’s statement read.
