Four suspects fatally shoot man before disarming TMPD officer and hijacking a motorist in the north
The police in Tshwane are investigating a case of murder, armed robbery, theft and hijacking.
Four suspects shot and killed a 39-year-old man near Wonderpark shopping centre last week, before hijacking a car and robbing a TMPD officer of his service pistol.
Police in Tshwane have launched a manhunt to find the perpetrators.
“The cousin of the deceased alleged that the four armed suspects were in a taxi from Pretoria West,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johann van Dyk.
Van Dyk said the man was shot on the corner of Heinrich and Brits roads near Wonderpark.
“The cousin heard a gunshot, only to find his cousin lying a few metres further on the pavement,” Van Dyk said.
The deceased sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Van Dyk said the taxi driver, who was forced to drive the suspects, told the police that one of the four armed men shot the deceased on the sidewalk.
“The taxi operator then further alleged that these four suspects forced him to drive away to the R80 Mabopane highway near Soshanguve Block XX with them.”
On the R80 the suspects saw a metro officer on the side of the road issuing an infringement notice to a motorist.
“The suspects got off the taxi and pounced on the TMPD officer and the motorist and let the taxi driver go,” Van Dyk told Rekord.
The police are investigating a case of murder, armed robbery and hijacking.
Tshwane metro police (TMPD) spokesperson Superintendent Isaac Mahamba confirmed the incident.
Mahamba said the TMPD officer was luckily unharmed.
“Our member from the TMPD motorbike unit was ambushed and robbed of his service pistol while issuing an infringement notice to a motorist who was driving a green, Ford Mondeo.”
Mahamba said it is alleged that four heavily armed men who were travelling in a white Toyota Quantum hijacked the motorist after disarming the officer.
“The suspects drove off in the Ford Mondeo, which was later discovered abandoned not far from the scene.”
He said the suspects are still at large.
