Wonderpark Mall ‘robber’ dies, another arrested in aftermath
One suspect was declared dead, one was arrested and three more fled the scene leaving behind their white Mazda double cab bakkie.
A suspect in the recent robbery of the MTN store in Wonderpark Mall, north of Pretoria has been arrested while another was declared dead on the scene.
Police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk said a group of five men robbed an MTN store of goods worth more than R50 000.
“An employee was sitting with her assistant manager when an unknown man pounced on them,” Van Dyk said.
He said then a second man armed with a grey firearm approached the employee while the other suspects waited outside.
One robber pushed the employee to an office, and “pointing the firearm at her chest, instructed her to open a cage”, said Van Dyk.
When the employee obliged, the suspects took two Huawei laptops valued at R40 000.
They also stole a Y76 Vivo cellphone valued at R9 000 and an Oppo A98, then ran out firing warning shots.

He said the suspects abandoned their white Mazda double cab and ran on foot.
“One was arrested and was handed over to Akasia police.”
Another was apprehended by the mob.
“Police discovered he had bullet wounds. Paramedics were summoned to the scene and declared him dead.”
Van Dyk said the remaining suspects escaped.
A case of armed robbery and murder is under investigation.
