Pretoria man survives attempted hijacking

The victim suspects the car wash owners in the area to be behind the car hijackings.

Pretorian motorist Shaun Dobson was shot multiple times in what is suspected as an attempted hijacking in Silverton.

According to Dobson, the incident took place early on Sunday around 04:00.

“I was followed by a black VW Golf for quite some time, and it stopped me at Flamingo Street. Three men approached me and then shot at me three times.

While I was begging for my life, they ripped through my cabin and took my wallet. Luckily, my cellphone fell in between the seats,” Dobson said.

He said the three suspects fled when they saw an ADT security vehicle approaching.

Dobson said he was transported to the Steve Biko hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds.

His partner told Rekord that he was discharged on Monday morning and now recovering at home.

“He is extremely traumatised as one would imagine. It’s not every day one survives an attempted hijacking and comes out alive. As a family, we are grateful that he’s alive and the hijackers only managed to take his wallet,” she added.

Dobson believed his ordeal was not a normal hijacking but rather that a criminal syndicate in the area had targeted him.

“There’s a car wash in the area and the owner recently underwent a similar ordeal.”

A case of attempted hijacking has since been opened at the Silverton police station.

At the time of publication, police had not commented.
