Car chase leads to collision with taxi transporting schoolchildren

The stolen car recovered yesterday afternoon is linked to a case in Pretoria North.

The Tshwane police flying squad recently recovered a stolen vehicle when a car chase ended in a collision with a minibus taxi taking learners to school.

The accident took place on September 6 around 14:00 when squad members spotted the vehicle while patrolling around Winterveldt.

“We spotted the vehicle, a white Nissan Np200 bakkie travelling at a high speed and passing through red robots,” said squad spokesperson, Sergeant Legodi.

“We activated our sirens to instruct the driver to stop but instead he sped off. After the driver refused to stop, he began driving recklessly and negligently until the vehicle crashed into a Toyota Siyaya transporting school children on the corner of Maroela Avenue and Bushelezi Street.”

No one was injured though the suspect fled the scene.

The Nissan bakkie (valued at R160 000) was reported stolen in Pretoria North earlier this month. A fingerprint expert was contacted to process the car.

The vehicle was later taken to the Pretoria West pound for storage.

Residents with any information regarding this case are urged to contact their local authorities.
