Young man beaten to death during brawl in Pretoria
A 21-year-old man, Celvin Seaborne, was beaten while attempting to intervene in a brawl in Pretoria.
A horrifying incident unfolded on Friday evening in Pretoria as a 21-year-old young man lost his life in a brutal altercation outside a local pub.
The victim Celvin Seaborne was fatally assaulted while attempting to intervene in the brawl.
According to the SAPS spokesperson Johan van Dyk in Hercules, the incident occurred around 04:50 on September 9 at a BP garage, where Seaborne was accompanied by his girlfriend. As the night took a grim turn, a fight erupted on the streets nearby.

In a heroic but ultimately tragic act, Seaborne rushed towards the altercation to defuse the situation. However, he soon became the target of the assailant’s violence.
The attacker’s blows left him incapacitated, and despite the paramedics’ prompt arrival, they were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are several witnesses and video footage available to the police,” said Van Dyk.

The suspect responsible for Seaborne’s death has been apprehended and is currently facing legal charges.
An investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement authorities in possession of several eyewitness accounts and video footage of the incident, which will be crucial in determining the sequence of events.
The Langarm Pub, the venue where Seaborne and his friends had spent the evening, declined to comment on the incident at this time.
Lizell Herbst, a family friend of Seaborne, shared her account of the tragic events. She revealed that the group of friends had been at the Langarm pub in Bergsig on the fateful Friday evening.
“When they left later, Celvin and his girlfriend saw a violent fight across the road at the BP petrol station. He and his girlfriend walked towards it because their car was parked there. Celvin saw that one of his acquaintances was involved and stepped in to stop the fight.”
Herbst added that during this intervention, Celvin was struck by one of the individuals involved. Although initial reports suggested it was a brick, this detail remains unverified at this stage.
“The paramedics arrived and tried to resuscitate him with a defibrillator, but were unsuccessful. They pronounced him dead at the scene,” Herbst stated.
Seaborne’s untimely demise has left his family and loved ones devastated. His mother expressed her profound grief on Facebook, writing, “Celvin Seaborne, how am I doing today son? How must I go and say goodbye to you for the last time? How do I have your ID stamped Deceased? No man, this is not right.”
As the community grapples with this tragic loss, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Seaborne’s death continues, and justice for the young man remains a paramount concern.
