Atteridgeville police arrest four with unlicensed firearms

The suspects face a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Three men and a woman were recently arrested by Atteridgeville police in connection with the brandishing of a firearm.

The police received a complaint regarding malicious damage to property at the Phomolong Bridge in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The complainant alleged that the suspects had approached and pointed a firearm at them.

“Police proceeded there and on arrival, the complainant alleged three unknown men in a silver Toyota Tazz had pointed a firearm at him,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.

“Police then patrolled around and spotted then stopped the motor vehicle.”

They apprehended the four occupants and during a search, found a firearm and magazine in the trousers of the driver.

They later discovered another firearm, a 9mm handgun with the name and serial number filled off, under the driver’s seat.

“When the officers asked who the firearms belonged to, no one replied and the suspects did not have licenses for the firearms either,” Van Dyk

All four face a charge for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects, aged 24, 26, 32 and 36, are detained at the Atteridgeville police station.

Anyone with information on this or similar case is urged contact the police.
